Company 21, Engine 26 and Truck 22 dispatched class one to 4686 Route 209 at the CVS Pharmacy for an automatic fire alarm. Engine 21 went enroute with 6, Engine 26 with 2 and Truck 22 with 3. On arrival at a 600 by 200 foot one story commercial pharmacy store the Truck took side A and prepared to set up when Command 21 placed all units available.

Odor Investigation, 197 Arlington Street (Box 22-1)
At the request of Boro personnel on scene Engine 22 responded class three with 2 to 197 Arlington Street in Lykens for an investigation. On arrival side A at a municipal sewage treatment plant the crew was met by two Boro employees who asked that a gas meter and the TIC be used to check the C/D corner of the building. No odors or leaks were detected but a burned and charred outlet was found. The circuit was disabled and the Engine went available.
Company 22 dispatched class three to the intersection of Market and South Street in Lykens Boro for an animal extrication. Chief 22 responded POV and on arrival, was informed that a cat was stuck in a storm sewer in front of 701 Market Street. Truck 22 responded with 7 and Engine 22 with 2 and 5 additional members POV. On arrival the crew removed several storm grate covers and flushed some water down the line. The cat was recovered and command placed the company available.
Company 21, Engine 23, and Truck 22 dispatched class one to 259 Park Lane in Washington Township for a reported fully involved trailer fire with a burn victim. Truck 22 responded with 7 and Chief 22 POV. Engine 23 arrived on side A just ahead of Engine 21, which took side C. Medic 6 on scene reported a burn victim and that it was a result of a domestic. Truck 22 arrived and beached the rig on a lower road and sent their crew to side C, where they assisted Engine 21 with fire suppression. Crews from Engine 23 and Rescue 21 attacked the fire from side A. Command requested additional tankers, and tankers from Gratz and Wiconisco were dispatched, along with Engine 22 for the fill site at the camp grounds outside of Loyalton. Engine 22 responded light with 2 and requested an additional Engine for manpower, and Engine 27 was dispatched to assist them. They established a fill site and laid 300 feet of 5 inch out to Route 209. The trailer was fully involved upon arrival of initial companies, and suppression efforts were done by crews from 21, 22, and 23. Company 20 was placed on standby in quarters for Company 21, and Company 24 stood by in quarters for Companies 22 and 23. After control, crews assisted with salvage and overhaul and the arrival of PSP and the fire marshal. After completion of those tasks, command placed the Engine and Truck available.
An early morning accident occurred in Millersburg on July 5, 2007. A vehicle, traveling West on Route 25, failed to stop at the intersection with Route 209. The vehicle traveled through the intersection and collided with several new Chevy pickup trucks sitting in the car lot of Troutman's Chevrolet. The Millersburg fire company responded and found the driver behind Troutman's body shop, where he apparently collapsed while trying to flee the scene. The fire crew began medical treatment until the arrival of EMS. Damage to the parked vehicles was estimated at over $100,000.
A fire occurred around 3 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, 1969, at the abandoned Dieter farm near the railroad crossing east of Williamstown. The Williamstown and Sheridan fire companies responded to the blaze. The fire burned through the local telephone lines, knocking out service for about five hours before repairmen fixed the problem.
A fire that began in the roof of the Murphy Plywood plant in Sutherlin, Oregon, on Tuesday afternoon, July 5, 2005, quickly spread to engulf several buildings on the property, destroying 250,000 square feet of the plant. Damage was estimated to be upward of $30 million. A faulty motor inside one of the dryers used to dry veneer likely caused the fire, which began at 12:30 p.m.

World's Fairground "White City" Fire - Chicago, IL
The Columbian Exposition World's Fair was held in Chicago from May 1st to October 21st in 1893, so named to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' "discovery" of the New World. Most of the buildings were based on classical architecture, and the area taken up by the fair around the Court of Honor was known as "The White City" because of the white stucco and the extensive use of street lights. There were three major fires at the fair. The first one occurred during the fair, on July 10, 1893, when the Cold Storage Building burned, killing 17 people. The others occurred after the fair had closed. A fire on January 8, 1894 burned the Casino, Peristyle, Music Hall, and Manufactures Building. A fire the following month burned the Colonnade. A massive fire on July 5, 1894 burned the Court of Honor, Machinery Hall, Electricity Building, Administration Building, Mining Building, and the Manufactures Building. Not fire related, but interesting notes about that fair: There were quite a few "firsts" to debut: Aunt Jemima pancake mix, Cracker Jack, Cream of Wheat, Quaker Oats, Elongated coins (where you squash your coins to make souvenirs), the first Ferris Wheel, elevated electric railway, moving sidewalks, Juicy Fruit gum, Shredded Wheat, United States Post Office's first picture postcards and commerative stamp sets, United States Mint's first commemorative coins. Pabst won a blue ribbon for its beer. Milton Hershey bought chocolate manufacturing equipment at the fair and added chocolate to his business.
