Company 21 and Truck 22 dispatched class one to 141 West Main Street in Elizabethville for an automatic fire alarm. As Truck 22 was responding with 7 Command 21 placed the box in service with a false trip.
2017
Crash w/fire/entrap into house, 5982 Route 209 (Box 21-6)
Truck 22 dispatched class one to the 21-6 box for a one car crash with entrapment and fire and into a house. Truck 22 responded with 7 and Engine 22 added on with 3. Engines 21 and 23 and Rescues 21 and 23 along with Tanker 21 and Utility 21 also on the call. Truck 22 arrived on scene and found EMS on scene with one vehicle against the A/B corner of a structure and 2 patients entrapped in the car. The vehicle had been on fire but was extinguished by bystanders prior to the arrival of the truck. The Truck crew set up lighting and assisted EMS with patient care. On the arrival of Rescue 21 one victim was extricated and the driver was signal 12 (deceased). Another victim was found along side the house and was taken to awaiting EMS. Two helicopters were requested and Life Lion was dispatched with the LZ set up in the Upper Dauphin Middle School parking lot. Engine and Utility 21 set up the LZ. Two 22 members drove the two Medic 6 units from the scene to the LZ. The crew continued to assist on scene and remained there until the driver was extricated and command placed the Truck available.
Company 22 dispatched class three to the 600 block of Main Street for a wire down. Engine 22 responded with 4, Utility 22 with 2, and Chief 22 POV. On arrival, the wire was found to be a TV cable wire, which was rolled up and placed next to the pole, and command placed the box available.
2010
Medical Assist for Lifting, 348 White Oak Road (Box 19-1)
Engine 22 was dispatched class 1 to 348 White Oak Road in Jefferson Township to assist EMS with lifting. The Engine responded with five personnel aboard, and Chief 22-1 responded POV. While en route, Chief 19-2 requested that Engine 22 stage on the hard-top road. Engine 22 arrived and staged at the intersection of Powells Valley Road and White Oak Road while Chief 22-1 assisted with lifting at the scene. The Engine remained at the staging location until released by command.
Engine-22 was dispatched to assist EMS with a cardiac arrest call. Numerous personnel responded to the scene and Lieutenant-22 canceled the Engine before its response, having sufficient crew on the scene. The crew assisted EMS with CPR and transferring the patient to an awaiting ambulance.
Frank Grell's South Second Street home caught fire at 5:00 PM. The company responded and made attachment but did not put any water through the hose. The fire was slight and cause was unknown. A second fire occurred on this day at Amos Kuntzelman's at the same time Rescue Hose Company was returning from the Grell Fire. Rescue Hose Company put water on the fire. The damage was slight. The cause was a heater in the cellar. Liberty Hose Company did not respond to this fire.
A large barn on the John W. Ettinger farm was destroyed by fire on January 20, 1932. The fire was discovered at 6:45 p.m. and the Halifax and Community Fire Company answered the call. 10 head of hogs were killed, 100 bushels of wheat, and 250 bushels of oats were destroyed. The loss was $3,000.
As Lykens' Rescue Hose Company was returning from a fire at Frank Grell's South Second Street home, another fire occurred at Amos Kuntzleman's home. The cause was a heater in the cellar. Rescue Hose Company put water on the fire. The damage was slight. Liberty Hose Company did not respond to this fire. (Liberty Hose Co. probably didn't know about this fire at the time - Rescue Hose Co. and Liberty Hose Co. were at the Grell fire and Rescue Hose Co. discovered this fire on their return from the Grell fire. However, this incident is recorded in Liberty Hose Co.'s fire log under the Grell fire.)
An explosion, followed by a fierce fire, at an Indonesian petrochemicals plant killed at least two people and injured 40 others on January 20, 2004. The blaze engulfed chemical tanks at the PT Petro Widada complex in Gresik, near Surabaya in East Java. It started when a machine at the plastic components plant overheated. Some tanks of ammonia exploded, forcing the evacuation of about 250 residents living in the vicinity of plant. At least five houses were burned down. The blaze destroyed two plants and caused tens of millions of dollars in damage.
A fire at an Amish farmhouse near Fryburg killed four children on January 20, 2000. The fire started about 7:30 a.m. The father of the children tried to get into the house to rescue them, but was turned back by heat and flames. The entire building was ablaze when firefighters arrived, and there was no chance to make a rescue.
In late 1899, bubonic plague began to sweep through Chinatown in Honolulu, Hawaii. The authorities ordered a quarantine, mass fumigations and the burning down of infected houses. On New Year's Eve, officials began to set a series of controlled fires to destroy infected areas and rodent breeding grounds. On the morning of Jan. 20, 1900, embers from a controlled fire spewed onto the roof of Kaumakapili Church and it burst into flames. Fireman watched helpless as Chinatown began to burn out of control. Firebreaks were attempted by blowing up and tearing down buildings. But, it proved ineffective. The area was still under quarantine, and the quarantine lines were enforced as citizens tried to flee the area. The huge fire burned for 17 days, destroyed 38 acres and 4,000 homes, left 7,000 people homeless,but no lives were lost from the fire. After the disaster was brought under control, the Board of Health successfully set an additional 31 controlled fires. Four months later, Honolulu was deemed plague-free.
