Liberty Hose Co. No. 2 - Incident Detail #63

On an extremely warm day, Companies 22 and 23 were dispatched to a structure fire in Wiconisco at the Machamer residence at 405 South Street, just behind the L & W Ballfield. Engine 22 responded with a crew of eleven, and on arrival, met Company 23 members fighting a room and contents fire on the second floor in the front bedroom of a two and one half story wood frame single family dwelling. Companies 24, 21, and 66 were dispatched for additional manpower as crews became exhausted from the heat. Some members dunked themselves in the swimming pool of the property owner next door. Additional EMS units were dispatched for rehab and they provided cool towels and water for the crews. The cause of the fire was determined to be a sewing machine in a closet of the front bedroom.
