Company 22, Wagon and Rescue 23, Engine 24, Rescue 21, Engine 27 and Medic 6 dispatched class one to 300 Main street in Lykens for a reported kitchen fire. Lieutenant 22 responded as the DO to the scene and on his arrival confirmed a working fire in the kitchen area on side C of a 38 foot by 54 foot 3 story wood frame duplex apartment building. Engine 22 responded with 4 and approached the scene by way of South Second street to Edward street tagging the hydrant at the intersection and laying out 300 feet of 5 inch to the D side of the structure. Rescue 23 approached from Main street and arrived in the intersection of Main and Edward streets. Both rigs pulled a line and sent crews to the kitchen door on side C where entry was forced and fire was found running up the back wall of the kitchen. A quick knockdown was achieved while crew members performed a primary search of the upper floors. Control was marked. Engine 24, Rescue 21 and Engine 27 arrived on scene and sent their manpower to side C where they rotated in to perform overhaul. A crew went to the opposite side of the duplex and checked that side and found no extension. Extensive overhaul was performed and secondary searches were performed as well as securing the power to the building. Utility 22 also responded and staged at Edward and South Second streets. Command requested the assistance of the red cross for the occupants of the building. PPL arrived on scene and secured the meter. Rescue 23 set up a fan on the A side to assist with ventilation. Command began releasing companies and eventually the box was placed in service.
