A 63-year-old woman was badly burned in a fire at her home at 104 Main Street on Thursday evening, March 21, 1974. Anna Kolvick had been safely removed from the home by Police Chief Clair Dunkelberger and a neighbor, George Schreffler. But, she ran back into the burning home, where she received severe burns around her face and arms. She was removed a second time, as firemen from Lykens and Wiconisco, who had responded to the scene, directed streams of water to keep the flames at bay while she was being rescued. Anna was taken to Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg and was later transferred to a hospital in Philadelphia, where she died the following month from her injuries. Although the firemen did a fine job bringing the fire under control, they were on the scene until around 10:30
PM
and were ultimately unable to save the structure. The fire started in the rear of the 2? story house. Fire Chief Earl Buffington enlisted a State Police fire marshal to investigate the cause.
