St. James Lutheran and Jacob's Reformed Church, known as the Howerter Church, burned to the ground shortly after 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, 1943. The disastrous fire occurred only a month before the church was to observe its 50th anniversary. The church was built and dedicated in 1893. |
