As Truck-22 was returning from a previous call, they were beginning their assent of Lykens mountain when a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction passed by the Truck at a high rate of speed. As it entered the sweeping turn above Shultz's camp, the driver lost control and slid sideways through the turn, leaving the roadway and striking a tree before returning to the roadway perpendicular to the road. Having observed this activity in the rear view mirror, the driver of Truck-22, Chief 22-1, stopped the truck. Personnel exited the truck and proceeded back to where the vehicle had come to rest on the road. The driver was refusing treatment. Captain-22 notified Dauphin County of the incident and requested Engine-19 to respond, since this was their territory. They were also returning from the previous call and arrived on scene shortly thereafter. An EMS unit was requested to assess the driver and PSP was requested to the scene. After the arrival of EMS, PSP, and Engine-19, Truck-22 left the scene and returned to quarters out of service with a frozen throttle.
