Liberty Hose Co. No. 2 - Incident Detail #591

On Wednesday, November 11, 1998, at 02:59 AM, Dauphin County Stations 22 (Lykens) and 23 (Wiconisco) were dispatched to 652 North Street in the Borough of Lykens for a report of smoke in a structure. Chief 22-1, Terry Sherman, was first on scene and reported that there was a very light smoke condition on the first floor of a two-story wood frame duplex. Engine-22 arrived at 03:02 AM followed by Truck-22 at 03:03 AM. Investigation of the structure discovered an overheated sump pump in the basement to be the cause of the smoke. There had been heavy rains in the area earlier in the evening. Company-23 was placed in service, and Company-22 personnel ventilated the structure and removed the pump. All units cleared the scene at 03:29 AM.
