On Thanksgiving evening, shortly after Medic 6 had returned from a call, they were proceeding to Elizabethville from Lykens with two paramedics on board when they encountered extremely icy conditions on Route 209, and the unit was involved in an accident with another vehicle, slid off the road and overturned, coming to rest against an embankment just West of the Borough. Engine 22 and Squad 23 were dispatched for an accident with unknown injuries, based on a call over med channel 9 from one of the two paramedics involved in the crash. Both companies responded, and upon arrival found both medics outside the vehicle, self-extricated. The crews handled scene cleanup and traffic control, while both medics were transported by EMS for evaluation. Crews remained on the scene until the Medic unit was removed and towed away.
