April 17, 1993
The Lykens Borough Authority was making final connections to the new water treatment plant and water line system. When the water lines were re-opened, several locations throughout the Borough had water main breaks occur, causing large holes and water geysers. Major breaks occurred at Main and Market Streets, the 700 block of Market Street, the 600 block of South Second Street, the 600 block of North Second Street, and several other locations. Company-22 was dispatched to assist with traffic control around these incidents and also to organize and request tankers to provide fresh water for the citizens of Lykens Borough and Wiconisco Township. Tanker 24 and Tanker 29-1 were dispatched because they had stainless steel tanks and after being sterilized, could provide drinking water. Additional water buffaloes were secured and used throughout the day.
