Engine 22 dispatched class one to 300 Chestnut Street in Lykens in front of the Alfa Laval Plant for a reported dumpster fire. Captain 22 responded POV and on arrival, confirmed a working fire in a 30 cubic foot refuse dumpster. Engine 22 responded with 6 and on arrival, established a water supply from the hydrant at Hanna and Chestnut Street. One 2 inch pre-connect was deployed to attempt extinguishment. The dumpster contained large amounts of plastic materials that had burned into a large compacted pile that could not be breached to get to the fire. Lieutenant 22-1 went to retrieve the Borough back hoe, and it was used to pull the contents of the dumpster out to put it out. Dauphin County's on duty haz mat officer was contacted. After removing the contents and breaking the plastic up, the fire was extinguished. The owner of the business whose dumpster caught fire was contacted and the scene was turned over to him. Engine 22 went available after repacking the pre-connect and 5 inch hose.
