Early Tuesday morning, October 10, 1944, Albert Scheib discovered a fire in the Martin store on Pottsville Street in Wiconisco. He notified Mr. Martin before much damage was done. Both Lykens and Wiconisco fire companies answered the call for help, and with the use of chemicals held the loss to a minimum. The fire had started in an electric ice cream cabinet. A plate glass window was cracked from the heat and the ice cream cabinet which caused the fire was destroyed.
