July 1, 1944

On the evening of Saturday, July 1, 1944, fire of unknown origin was discovered in the rear of the house on North Street owned by W. W. Erdman and tenanted by Mr. and Mrs. Leo Schmink. The fire had gained considerable headway by the time Liberty Hose Company arrived, but was soon brought under control and kept from spreading to the front of the home and to the adjoining building of the Lykens Hosiery Mills. The Wiconisco fire company also responded and assisted until all danger was past. Several hundred dollars damage was caused to the home, with no damage to the adjoining manufacturing plant.
