Fire of undetermined origin, but believed to have started near the chimney, completely gutted the interior of the Big Run home of Charles Paul on Sunday afternoon, November 20, 1960. The Lykens fire company responded to the alarm sent in at about 1:40PM. Hampered by the lack of water at the site of the fire, the Wiconisco fire company was also called to the scene. The use of the booster tanks on both fire trucks was the only thing that prevented the structure from being completely destroyed. The interior was gutted, and most of the furniture and appliances were destroyed according to the report of the fire chief, Elwood Miller. The structure had at one time been used as a small service station, but for some time past, Mr. Paul had been using it as his residence. No one was injured, according to reports.
