Fire broke out at Matters Texaco on Main Street in Lykens during the early morning hours. The building was in full blaze as Volunteers from Lykens and Wiconisco Companies arrived. Mutual Aid was requested from Williamstown and Elizabethville to help contain the fire. At the height of the blaze, quart oil cans were exploding and flying through the air. One broke thru the window of the Guy Bohner residence across Main Street, 30 yards away. This was a very spectacular blaze! The building was a total loss.
