 Smoke in a structure
 601 Main Street

September 28, 2005

A first alarm assignment was dispatched for a report of smoke in an apartment on the second floor of the former Reiner Apartments on the square in Lykens. Engine-22 and Truck-22 responded with full crews and Chief-22 and Chief 22-1 responded POV to the scene. Shortly after arrival of Company-22's apparatus, chief 22-1 held the box to Company-22 and canceled all other units. Investigation determined that the caller smelled the heat in their apartment coming on for the first time in the fall and heard an intermittently beeping smoke alarm with a weak battery in the second floor hallway. The combination of the heat odor and the audible alarm caused the concern. After removing the battery from the smoke detector, the company went available. The occupants were advised to replace the battery as soon as possible.

Note: This was the first call for the new Sutphen Tower Ladder.
