Fire alarm sounded at 7:50 p.m. and the company responded and found the fire on North Street at a property belonging to the Barrett Estate, occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Archie Sergeant. Connections were made at the corner of Pine and North Streets. The fire started when a defective flue set fire to a beam in a partition while Mrs. Sergeant was baking. This caused a slight delay for the firemen to get at the flames, but once reached, the fire was quickly extinguished. Damage was slight, about $25. Friends helped remove all furniture to safety. In the hurry some of it was damaged. The insurance on the furniture had expired the previous Thursday. The building is a double two-story frame owned by W. V. Barrett. The fire was in the wall dividing the two sides.
