Fire alarm sounded from the Fisher and Jones Paper Mill at 4 o'clock AM on February 11, 1904. Liberty Hose Company responded and found the east end of the building engulfed in flames. Connections were made at two plugs, but they were found to be frozen. One was thawed open with hot water. A stream was soon going and the fire was put out. The exact cause of the fire, which started at the calendar rolls, is not known, as the accounts of the affair by those working in that section all differ. Damage was $1,700, fully covered by insurance.
